Pittsburgh Steelers signed cornerback Levi Wallace in free agency. He played in 551 coverage snaps and 60 targets last season. Ahkello Witherspoon played the most with 606 snaps, which was the 11th most in the NFL. Wallace was above the mean in both completion percentage and deserved catch percentage. He also played well in terms of quality of play. The remaining Steelers were below the average. They were ranked in one of the lowest sample sizes. It is important to remember that Wallace is expected to play more this season, however.

Joe Haden was traded to the New York Jets this offseason. According to Football Outsiders, his replacement Levi Wallace is the team's most underrated player.

Watherspoons played more snaps than Wallace, but he allowed less yards and touchdowns. He also had a lower completion percentage and less touchdowns than him. Wallace's tape shows him as a fundamental cornerback with good instincts. His athletic profile won't jump off the screen, which makes some of his plays even more impressive.

For Wallace and Watherspoons, the only place they've played significantly in the NFL is outside cornerback. They can make their case to start at outside corner.

He is 26 years old and has already started 52 games for a good football program. His physicality and tackling ability are also a plus for Mike Tomlin and the coaching staff. He had a missed-tackle rate of just 5.9 percent and 10.8 percent over past two seasons, compared to Joe Haden's 17.4 percent, and Ahkello Witherspoon's 28.6 percent.

The Steelers are preparing for the future with their new salary cap. They have a few players under contract for more than two years and only one high-priced player on the roster in Cameron Heyward. T.J. Watt's record-breaking contract in September started the look to the past. The Steelers will make more cuts, restructures, extensions and signings in the coming days.

Mitch Trubisky signed with Pittsburgh on a $14.25 million contract worth up to $27 million with incentives. Trubsiksy was drafted by the Chicago Bears in 2017. He played in four seasons for them and was a Pro Bowl player. He is expected to start for Pittsburgh in 2022. The Steelers are headlined by 2022 NFL Defensive Player of the Year T.J. Watt. They also signed Trotsy on Monday.
