In the 1980s/early 90s, Bob Stupak was one of the big names in casino ownership – and in ’89, he got his name into gambling history.
For Super Bowl XXIII (Cincinnati Bengals vs San Francisco 49ers) in 1989, the Casino World owner reportedly bagged $1 million when he got Bengals +7 and the 49ers required a touchdown in the final minutes to win. The Bengals lost, 20-16 but covered that spread; Stupak’s wager was believed to be the largest ever made at a Las Vegas sportsbook to that point and thus realistically a US record.
