NFL week 1 game scores, adjusted for point spreads

Well, week 1 of the 2022 NFL season is now a matter of record and boy, was it fun – unless you’re a fan of one of 15 teams who lost. And depending on how you feel about ties.

With about 32 hours to go before Los Angeles Chargers! at Kansas City Chiefs!!! on Thursday Night Football. NFLbets takes quick stock of last week’s results ATS together with takes on how week 1 will affect NFL betting going forward. And we try to go short on the overreactions…

(Scores in bold denote those games in which the SU winner did not cover ATS.)

• Buffalo Bills 28½ at Los Angeles Rams 10 – The Buffalo Bills certainly looked at good as advertised while the Rams gave us an early reminder of the difficulty of repeating championship seasons.

• Kansas City Chiefs 37½ at Arizona Cardinals 21
• Minnesota Vikings 23, Green Bay Packers 5½ – NFLbets doesn’t mean to brag, but this Super Bowl LVII prediction looks great from the vantagepoint of week 2.

• Los Angeles Chargers 20½, Las Vegas Raiders 19
• Miami Dolphins 17, New England Patriots 7 – Early results on the great WR migration of the 2022 offseason: Tyreek Hill to Dolphins, great; Kansas City without Tyreek Hill, great; DaVante Adams to Raiders, great; Green Bay without Adams, let’s say “work in progress.”

• Chicago Bears 19, San Francisco 49ers 4 – What’s the over/under on starts for Trey Lance this season right now? 3½? Also, Kyle Shanahan is now 8-29 as a head coach in all games in which Jimmy Garoppolo does not start at quarterback.

Detroit Lions 35, Philadelphia Eagles 32 – The magic of reality tv is such that HBO can draw 1 million football fans to Hard Knocks and get these viewers to believe heartwarming stories of plucky, “tough as shit” dudes on defense that are giving up 40 pounds to their offensive counterparts can be competitive. In this case, you should have believed what your eyes, not Liev Schreiber, were telling you. Good win ATS, though.

• Baltimore Ravens 17½ at New York Jets 9 – Probably the least surprising, and thus least interesting, result of week 1.

Atlanta Falcons 26, New Orleans Saints 21½
• Cleveland Browns 26 at Carolina Panthers 22½ – Yep, the NFC South is going to be just about as messy to bet as always in 2022, it seems.

• Tampa Bay Buccaneers 17 at Dallas Cowboys 3 – Except, of course, for the Buccaneers who should probably be drawing a lot of handle in the “To Win Super Bowl LVII” prop after this game. These Bucs already strongly recall the 2015 Denver Broncos with an aging franchise QB set to retire (and who will probably take a few games off midway through) and a defense excellent enough to carry them to the Super Bowl. Buccaneers-Bills might seem like a really logical Super Bowl pick right around week 7, and bettors should probably take the under for here on out…

• Pittsburgh Steelers 23 at Cincinnati Bengals 13 – Message to Bengals backers: The best QB-WR battery in the NFL doesn’t mean much with a line capable of allowing seven sacks and five turnovers a game…

Houston Texans 20, Indianapolis Colts 13
• New York Giants 21 at Tennessee Titans 15
• Washington Commanders 28, Jacksonville Jaguars 22 – Houston and Indianapolis are tied atop the AFC South at 0-0-1? Seems like 8-8-1 could win this division.

• Seattle Seahawks 17 at Denver Broncos 9 – So hey, Pete Carroll can coach, huh? And if they pull off the win at San Francisco in week 2, the Seahawks should really be considered a playoff contender and – no kidding – a threat to compete in the AFC West…
