To put a positive spin on the Monday night game closing out preseason week 2, well … at least it’s not the regular season, maybe…? This game, with a line of
Atlanta Falcons -2½ at New York Jets, over/under 38½ points
How unfortunate is this matchup? By the popular over/under win-total proposition bet, the Falcons and Jets are expected to in a combined 11 games (five for the Falcons, six for the Jets). The sole team expected to perform worse in 2022 than the Falcons are the Houston Texans, with an over/under win total of 4½.
Most damning of all, the Falcons and Jets were two of the three teams that qualified under the Hard Knocks production team's requirements to serve as subject for their reality series. And the fate of such teams is … not good. Neither of these teams is likely to even resemble a contender this season, and both are likely to be drafting top-10 picks (if not top-5) in 2023.
As for this preseason specifically, the Falcons and Jets both won their preseason games 1 at the Detroit Lions and Philadelphia Eagles, respectively, in games which hit the over. Going into Sunday’s games, the over has hit at a 19-10 rate. Combined with the early (early!) exit of Jets QB Zach Wilson from this preseason, we’re thinking under all the way with these teams and then some. Take the under on an O/U of 38½ points.
