Preseason week 3 betting – Packers at Chiefs – NFLbets loves hating Love

The last week of the 2022 NFL preseason starts this Thursday with a matchup of two teams drawing shorter odds to win Super Bowl LVII than the defending champion Los Angeles Rams – both teams opened at 10/1. For betting purposes, we’re talking about

Green Bay Packers -3 at Kansas City Chiefs, over/under 36 points

As with so many of these preseason games, the conversation may begin (and very frequently end) with the quarterbacks and “skill” players on offense: Specifically, will they play? For this game, the answer on Aaron Rodgers and his guys is an emphatic “no.” Against Kansas City, the Packers will play the starting offensive line but with Jordan Love at quarterback.

As for the Chiefs, head coach Andy Reid has reportedly not decided if Patrick Mahomes and/or Travis Kelce will go for the 3rd preseason tilt. Mahomes has been dominant in the true sense of the word: In just *three possessions* this preseason, he’s gone 18-of-26 for 222 yards and 3 touchdowns against zero interceptions. All other Kansas City QBS ( ) have totaled 31-of-51 for 224 yards against 1 TD and 1 pic – with this trio taking a combined seven sacks against Mahomes’s nil. The team has scored 18 points without Mahomes in the games, 21 with him in.

But will it even matter if Mahomes doesn’t play?

Throughout the Andy Reid Era in Kansas City, the Chiefs have not been noted for their defense in general and specifically the pass rush. Despite oddly leading the league in tackles for a loss in 2021, the KC D was statistically average at best in almost all areas and were decidedly vulnerable to the big play, finishing second-worst in average yards per pass play and sixth-worst in average per run.

Fortunately, Jordan Love & Co. don’t seem to have a big play in them right now. Playing behind the starting OL and getting the great majority of snaps with the offense, Love has gone 25-of-48 for just 290 yards in two preseason games. Against the New Orleans Saints in week 2, Love avoided throwing a pick – a big improvement over his 3-interception showing in preseason week 1 – but a 50% completion percentage at less than 5.0 yards per attempt? Heck, the normally low-key Chiefs defense just might keep the second-string Packers out of the endzone the entire game. Take the Kansas City Chiefs +3 vs Green Bay.
