For those NFL bettors who still have illusions about the futility of wagering on the “To Win the Super Bowl” proposition bet before opening week, NFLbets presents the current odds on each of the 32 teams – or rather the 28 teams still mathematically in the playoff hunt with four games to go.
In seeking out good value on Super Bowl odds, NFLbets must quickly backtrack on speculating on the Super Bowl prop in the posteason – if you’re covering a prohibitive, dynastic-type odds-on favorite. With the Steelers falling off the undefeated wagon and no NFC team really distinguishing itself, the Kansas City Chiefs repeating as champion seems inevitable. Those with the foresight to invest in the Chiefs at +650 in the preseason are probably gawking at their tickets daily with Andy Reid’s boys now getting +220 and falling.
On the flipside are the Baltimore Ravens; after a 14-2 season in 2019, the Ravens had the same line in the prop as did the Chiefs. Now that Baltimore is struggling to keep within the top 7 seeds, even 25/1 odds feel like a sucker bet.
Right now, the best value can probably be found in the Buffalo Bills and Pittsburgh Steelers. These two have seen their lines shrink by about half, but can still be had at 14/1 and 15/1, respectively – and those odds will likely shift after the teams meet on Sunday.
And once again, those who bet on the previous year’s Super Bowl loser have got to be kicking themselves. Given the confidence Kyle Shanahan showed in his quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo down the stretch and into the postseason, the preseason odds of 10/1 on the San Francisco 49ers were already too high – and the current 100/1 line is far more fitting.
Reminder for next season: Just seven Super Bowl losers returned to the Super Bowl the following season (four not including the Buffalo Bills) and only two went on to win the Super Bowl the following year: The Dallas Cowboys in Super Bowl VI and the New England Patriots in LIII. Therefore, the Super Bowl runner-up by sheer mathematics should start the year at no better than 26/1…
